Fine German cello by Heinrich Holste, Steinkirchen 1926
Fine German cello by Heinrich Holste, Steinkirchen 1926
Can you imagine that this beautiful cello is almost 100 years old? It is in like new condition. It is built by a violin maker named Heinrich Holste in Steinkrichen 1926.
It is a shame that the true beauty of the instrument does not come across in the photos as it does in the hand. This one-piece, half slab cutted back is a rarity and is beautifully structured.
Heinrich Holste (born 17. Jan 1865) was actually a trained violinist and played in the Stader Staatskapelle. He came to violin making through wood turning and wood carving. When he got the idea to build a violin, his previous knowledge helped him so that he could get all the teachings in books. He built his first violin in 1895 and since then has built over 400 violins, 10 violas, 20 cellos and for double basses with growing success. This cello is one of his rare cellos. The excellent violinist Professor Goby Eberhardt paid the highest praise to his work and made a significant contribution to the fact that wide circles became aware of him. Through incessant striving he perfected himself more and more and so his instruments are flawlessly executed and sound full and noble with a very easy response. His son Johnny Holste, born on August 15, 1892, is a gifted employee.
