About this instrument

This exceptional Turin violin, dating from the middle to the second half of the 17th century, is distinguished by its characterful appearance and equally individual sound. The instrument has undergone complete and comprehensive restoration and is now in very good, ready-to-play condition.

Of particular interest is the dendrochronological examination that was carried out. The latest preserved growth ring in the table was dated to 1610. As wood has been replaced around the edges, it may be assumed that several further growth rings were originally present and that the outermost ring probably dated to around 1615.

Furthermore, the dendrochronological analysis revealed numerous striking correlations with the table wood of historic Italian instruments by important makers and workshops of the 17th century. These comparisons are particularly informative in assessing the wood used and underscore the instrument’s exceptional historical character.

Tonally, the violin possesses a highly distinctive, noble and exceptionally colourful voice. Particularly appealing is its great variety of tonal colours and nuances. The instrument has a sonic signature entirely its own and a distinctive timbre that makes it highly recognisable.

Its volume is in the medium range, yet entirely sufficient, and combines beautifully with its easy and direct response. The violin responds quickly to the player and offers a broad spectrum ranging from warm, darker colours to clearer, more delicate and brilliant nuances.

A violin with history, personality and an exceptional wealth of tonal colours—an unusual instrument for musicians seeking individuality, noble tonal quality and a sonic personality entirely its own.
