About this instrument

Carl Albert Nürnberger — Cello Bow, Early 1950s
This cello bow by Carl Albert Nürnberger combines fine, classical workmanship with outstanding playing qualities. Made in the early 1950s, it has an octagonal stick of dark reddish-brown pernambuco. The silver-mounted ebony frog with double eyes, three-piece button and silver wire winding complete its distinctive appearance.

The bow weighs 80.5 grams and has been played extensively and with great appreciation throughout its life to date. This has left visible playing wear on the stick and frog, which is reflected accordingly in the price. There are no cracks or repairs. These are the marks of use of a bow that was not merely kept in storage, but intensively used and valued in daily musical life.

Its particular strength becomes apparent in playing. In our assessment, its playing qualities compare very favourably with bows in price categories above €15,000. Anyone seeking a genuinely outstanding playing cello bow and untroubled by visible signs of use will find this a highly convincing alternative to considerably more expensive examples. Its quality as a musical tool is paramount—and therein lies the particular appeal of this bow.

The bow is sold with a certificate by Albert Nürnberger dated 12 November 2025. In it, he confirms the bow as the work of his grandfather, Carl Albert Nürnberger (1885–1971), and describes it as retaining its original parts in all essential respects.
